WHEELERSBURG, OH-It will be a very special night at the Southern Ohio Speedway on Friday, July 27th for Hall of Fame Night. In addition to an exciting five class racing program featuring Late Models-$2,000 to win, Jordan Heating & Cooling UMP Modifieds-$600 to win, Street Stocks-$400 to win, GCP Engines Sport Mods-Regular Purse, and Stock 4 cylinders-Car Count Based Purse, the second class of the Southern Ohio Speedway Hall of Fame will be inducted.
2012 SOS Hall of Fame Inductions The 2012 Southern Ohio Speedway Hall of Fame Inductions will take place by the flagstand immediately following time trials. The five members inducted into this years SOS Hall of Fame include 1967 SOS Super Modified Track Champion Wayne McGuire, 1983 and 1991 Southern 100 winner Jack Boggs, 1970 SOS Late Model Track Champion P. D. Hazelbaker, 1971 SOS Late Model Track Champion Joe Greenslate, and 1989 SOS Late Model Track Champion Terry Houser. The Hall of Fame inductees (family members for the inductees not living) will receive a SOS Hall of Fame award and be interviewed by track announcer Chuck Greenslate. Track Surface Work Updates For the first time since the dust issue started this season back in June, track officials feel extremely confident that the track surface issues have been resolved. Track officials feel like most of the dust was a result of not getting enough moisture down into the track surface. The top layer of the track would be wet, but once the cars broke through the top layer, it was nothing but dry. From now on out, track officials will be opening the surface each week and start the track watering process early in the week to get moisture into the track. If there’s moisture in the track, there won’t be any dust. The track was prepared this way last week for the open practice and had thTrack officials will also focus heavily on being able to get the track surface compacted enough to where the track will stay smooth. Track officials are extremely excited for what should be a premium racing surface this Friday. Late Model Preview July 27th will feature a $2,000 to win show for the Late Model division. Last season, Jackie Boggs took the win on Hall of Fame Night following an intense battle for the lead with Eddie Carrier Jr. and Tim Dohm. Late Model feature winners at SOS this season include Eddie Carrier Jr. (6), Josh McGuire (2), Jackie Boggs (2), and Greggie Oliver (1). Each Late Model race at SOS this season has featured great racing action, race fans can look for much of the same this Friday. Jordan Heating & Cooling UMP Modified Preview It will be a $600 to win show on July 27th for the Jordan Heating & Cooling UMP Modifieds. This class has offered extremely competitive racing all season long and race fans can expect much of the same this week. One thing to keep an eye on as well will be the points battle. Jeremy Rayburn continues to hold the point lead with only 4 more points races left on the season. Street Stock Preview It has been more than a month since the Street Stock division has taken to the high banks of SOS, but the ultra competitive class will return this Friday. The Street Stocks have been the most competitive class at SOS this season with four different winners in four races. Race fans can expect some more great racing action out of the Street Stock division on Friday. GCP Engines Sport Mod Preview It has also been over a month since the GCP Engines Sport Mods have competed at SOS. Track officials look forward to having the class back on the racing card this Friday as the GCP Engines Sport Mod division has produced great racing all season long. Car counts are also expected to climb higher this week as more drivers have cars ready. Car counts in the GCP Engines Sport Mod division have stayed in double digits for most of the season. Stock 4 cylinder Preview For the first time since the reopening of the track, Stock 4 cylinders will be on the racing card this Friday. As this is a trial race for the class, the car rules are what follows below: 1. Any American or Foreign compact car with a 4 cylinder engine and a stock body. 2. NO tube frame cars and NO sheet metal cars will be allowed. 3. Roll cages are mandatory. 4. No racing tires allowed, street tires only. The class will race on a car count based payout. The payout follows below: 10 or less cars 1. $100 2. $80 3. $60 4. $50 5. $35 6-10. $25 11-18 cars 1. $150 2. $100 3. $80 4. $60 5. $50 6. $40 7. $30 8-18. $25 19 or more cars 1. $225 2. $100 3. $90 4. $80 5. $70 6. $60 7. $50 8. $40 9. $30 10-20. $25 Any drivers with questions concerning the legality of their cars can email southernohiospeedway@gmail.com. Times and Admission Prices Gates will open on Friday at 4:00 pm with hot laps starting the nights action at 7:30 pm. General admission is $12 for ages 17 and up, $5 for teens ages 13-16, $2 for kids ages 7-12, and FREE for kids ages 6 and under.
