Hidden Gem Scholarship Winners Announced

(Peebles,OH) After a long decision process two exceptional students have been chosen as the Hidden Gem Scholarship recipients. Taylor Cook from Stanley, NC and Cole DeMint from Peebles, OH were both chosen by the Hidden Gem scholarship Selection Board due to their outstanding academic records, their involvement in their communities and their involvement in racing. We would like to congratulate the two again on their hard work and determination to not only racing but to their school work as well.

The Hidden Gem scholarship is given out from the profits of the $5,000 to win Late Model race that was held on Wednesday July 11th at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex in Peebles, OH as part of the UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals. This was the second running of Steven Partin’s Hidden Gem and this is the second round of Scholarships given out from the race. This season the race was won by Eddie Carrier Jr from Salt Rock, WV. The first running of the race was in 2011 as Darrell Lanigan took home the money. The race is promoted by 15 year old Steven Partin. Partin was 13 when he originally came up with the idea of a race centered around helping people go to college. “At first the race was going to be to help me go to college” Says Partin “but after some thinking i figured that we had investments lined up to where i could pretty much pay for my own college so why not help others who dont”. At the age of 14 he took on Steven Partin’s Hidden Gem for the first time.

The money will be given to the students after they complete a semester at a college of their choice and have presented us with a transcript showing this. Then we will send the money to the school and have them credit it to the student so it is ensured that the money is used for the students schooling. “I would personally thank all of our sponsors, racers, and applicants from this season and hope that we can continue to grow and help more each season with scholarships” stated Partin.
