Default FASTRAK Toccoa,GA July 28th PR!!

"FASTRAK Driver Dedicates Emotional Toccoa Win To His Passing Father"

(Toccoa,GA) The FASTRAK Racing Series rolled into the Longest running dirt track in the Country this past weekend. Built in 1953 the 5/16th mile "Superfast" Toccoa Speedway in the "Peach State of Georgia". It's the first time since visiting the facility back in early March during the cold months for the Inaugural FASTRAK Winter Nationals which was an exciting event to start the 2012 racing season for the "Premier Pro Late Model Series in the Country" seeing the Hull,GA native "Rolls" Royce Bray take the checkerd flag after the "WILD" three wide daring move in turn one to take down the $5,000 Victory. What type of event we're we in store for Saturday night?? No one knew just like any other event but when the closing laps settled in we all knew it was gonna be nothing short of special and monumental.

During the day the FASTRAK Drivers & Teams had a succesful Car Show at the Quality Foods of Toccoa,GA where around 10 Drivers displayed their cars along with the 52ft FASTRAK Officials Unit to spark interest in the BIG event that come to the small town of Toccoa. The ambient temperture was in the upper 90's and for that reason no on track activity got started til after the sun set. When the Hot Laps had concluded which was broken down into 3 session groups the #11m of Enoree,SC "KidQuick" Zack Mitchell was the fastest over all on the charts and then proceded to carry that momentum into P1 for the 40 Lap A-Main grabbing the Pole in "VP Race for the Pole Qualifying" with a time of 13.090 secs. The TNT Chassis looked to be the class of the field in the early going and with the other 7 drivers locked in from Qualifying everyone else was commited to have to run 2 Heat Races (B-Mains).

In RockAuto.com B-Main #1 it was a exciting 8 laps on the 5/16th mile with drivers "fighting & clawing" for every spot they could til the checkerd. One of these drivers was the Points Leader coming into the night car #57 "Lightnin" Lee Cooper from Woodruff,SC. During the Heat Cooper tried to make a pass on the inside of #4x of Athens,GA Danny Sanders. Sanders came down on Cooper which caused him to loop around in 1&2 forcing the yellow and a do over on the Start. When the Green Flag fell again 2 laps later caution would when #57 of Cooper stalled on the backstrectch & eventually thats when the verdict came out about the broken right rear shock. When that excitment settled so did the Heat Race as it was car #77 from Martinez,GA Brian Connor in the Connor Enterprises Barry Wright Chevy Impala SS for the victory. Hoosier Race Tires B-Main #2 it was a pretty excited heat race with good door to door racing all through the field except up front where the defending FASTRAK Southeast/Mideast Champion in his new ride #44w "Flatfoot" Brandon Umberger sailed away to victory to lock himself into the outside of Row 5 in 10th for the 40 lap feature. After a awesome 4 wide slaute and a special extra long pyro show to hype the fans put on by "Phantom Fireworks" who we're also in attendance it was time to drop the "GO" Stick for 40 Laps at Toccoa,GA!!

When the Green flag fell quickly so did the yellow with no laps complete as car #81 from Clayton,GA John Howard looped around solo in Turn 4. On the second go around Trouble ensues again with a BIG multi car accident in turn 1 which involved 7 cars. Drivers involved were 4 Tony Hicks from Gaffney,SC after he got pinched down to the bottom to the cushion and battling with #85 Hotrod Lamance and #187 David McCoy. From there on #17 Lee Callenback, #44w Brandon Umberger, #88 Trent Ivey, #28 Greg Pilgrim, #07 Larry Timms and #44 John Ruggiero all got collected in the carnage that came from it and still no laps were complete. Finally after a green flag lap underway and #56 of "The Big Show" Ty Lowe from Maysville,GA jumped out to a early lead over pole sitter #11m of Zack Mitchell and his teammate in the TNT #11 of "Hollywood" David Smith was trying to run down the both of them which put the Toccoa faithful to their feet. During the start so was another driver that was on a mission, Lee Cooper started the race in last 23rd position so ultimately he had no other way to go but "to the front" and he did just that. As the points leader started picking off cars one by one like they we're chess pawns to salavge something positive after breaking the shock on the right rear in the Heat Race. After another several single car cautions slowing the field with drivers like #28 Greg Pilgrim, #22's Kyre Mulloney, #371 Drew Benfield the yellow was flew "wildly" over the field when #44 of Lincolnton,NC's John Ruggiero and #17 of Clayton,GA's Lee Callenback were contending hard for position on the tight confines of the 5/16th mile in Toccoa,GA and got alittle impatient before the drop of the green and took eachother out exiting turn 3 to put us under Caution 5. On the restart #22 of recent FASTRAK Victory at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Hanover,WV Chris "Fergy" Ferguson was involved in a hard wreck after being collected with #371 of Drew Benfield and #07 of Hodges,SC Larry Timms with the incident Ferguson had to park it and his hopes of a great finish would diminish. After another restart 2 laps later Caution would fly again as #16 Colby Cannon and stalls in front of the field which caused the leaders to check up but #187 David McCoy and #85 of HotRod Lamance get tangled up in turn #2 which cause Lamance to have to park the Tim King owned #85 to the pit area. There were a total of 9 caution flags that fell over Toccoa Speedway but on the last restart Points Leader Lee Cooper came from the 23rd starting position and with the final restart was in the Top 5 holding off Heat 1 winner Brian Connor in the #77 at the finish. #22 of Nick Dietz and #371 of Drew Benfield lost it right infront of the leaders and Ty Lowe who lead from the drop of the green had to get on the "binders" to keep from being involved setting us up for a 9 lap shootout.

"The Big Show" Ty Lowe was the class of the field and was looking for a victory but just not for the "prestiege or money" that was up for grabs but it was in honor of his Father Tom Lowe who passed away to be with the Lord on Saturday July 7th. He was a big inspiration and influence in his son's racing career as he was watching his son down below rocket over the rest of the field to victory and carry home an emotional win to the friends and family at Toccoa Motor Speedway which brought the entire crowd to their feet because of the rough circumstances that #56's Ty Lowe has gone through and with this victory it had to offer some type of relief with all the pain he's went through since Tom's passing. Ty Lowe as it would be fitting dedicated the "FASTRAK Georgia Summer Heat 40" in memory of his passing father Tom and when the race had concluded he took the Trophy from the race track and put it on his father's final resting place on earth at the cemetary across the road from Toccoa Speedway!!
