Sorry to hear that TJ . Had plans on coming down and visiting Rocky Top this year and see what it was all about . You did a great job in the previous years and good luck to ya in the future . In this business , I have learned you just never know what will happen next .

Good Luck Man!!

I really hate this. RTR was an a great place to watch and had exciting action. I really hate it for TJ because I could tell he really was putting everything into it.

But, after reading the notice, I don't see anything in there to prevent Evans from re-opening if he finds another promoter. Or does TJ own it outright (at least for this year)?

Anyway, I hope some way is found to re-open RTR.

Rocky Top Raceway closed until further notice

COAL GROVE, OH-Due to legal circumstances beyond the control of both Don Harmon and T. J. Layne, the Rocky Top Raceway is now closed until further notice. Both Harmon and Layne made the decision to close the track for the 2011 season and will no longer have anything to do with the track. T. J. Layne issued the following statement:

“It’s such a shame that things had to end this way”, stated Layne. “Unfortunately, a loophole in the share assignment agreement would allow Mr. Evans to take 50% of the shares back in 2012 and there’s not a thing I could do about it. The loophole was not his fault, just improper wording in the contract. But I simply cannot work hard to build the track up and then have it taken back from me at the end of the year. We could of tried to work through that, but a major conflict arose with Mr. Evans and pretty much took away any possibility of all parties ever working together again.

I would like to thank all of the fans, drivers, and sponsors who have supported Rocky Top Raceway over the years. I’ll never forget the memories made nor the people I’ve met. It was a fun ride, it’s just ashamed it had to end this way especially knowing what the track was going to be this season. I really can’t thank everyone enough for the overwhelming support we received during the past three weeks.

But when one door closes another opens. Don Harmon and I have now formed another motorsports company and have full intentions of being in the race track business again soon. We have several options on the table and will be exploring all of those. It may take some time, but I am confident that we will be back with another track. Thanks again to everybody for your support over the years!”

The Rocky Top Raceway will now stand still with 99 race events completed in seven years.

This is HORRIBLE!I went to school with 2 of Mr Evans kids and they were always polite and nice and good christian people.Mr Evans is Christian too and none of this makes sense!TJ would do everything for that track and he always sat with Mr Evans when they went to other tracks together! Now because of a loophole in the contract,Mr Evans can take half of TJ and his partners shares!!It was a lawyers fault and not Mr Evans or Tj's but since Mr Evans is TJ's friend, then they should just make another contract that gets rid of the darn loophole??This is stupid I was sooooo pumped for Rocky Top this year! Also, since TJ and Mr Evans are friends why in the world would he even opt to take TJ's shares after all of the hard wrok TJ has out in that place!I guess Mr Evans can be a real promotor now, since hes s****ing his friends or somebody out of money!Man this ticks me off!

it's all about the $ to heck with the friendships. where has the days gone where a handshake was better than contract any lawyer could draw up?

Could H/L racing be investigating firing Southern backup?
