Default Senic wins first at Elkins

Senic takes first win of the year.

(Kerens, W.V. 7-28-12) After three weeks of rain, the Elkins Raceway finally some racing in the books. In the Jenkins Ford Super Late Models, Tim Senic and Bob Gordon snared the prelims. Unloading a brand new car that had not been raced before, Senic won his heat and shot from the pole to the lead. By lap eight Senic had built a full straight away cushion. In his previous six outings, he had a second, three thirds, a fifth and a sixth place finish. He was looking to better that Friday night. A caution on lap eight bunched the field up again, but as the green flew so did Senic. It quickly became apparent that it was Senic’s race to lose. A late yellow on lap 17 still couldn’t slow the Elkins driver down. When the checkers flew, the Roy’s RV Super Center / Mach’s Excavating Services #S2 sat in victory lane for the first time since July 10, 2010. Bob Gordon, Shane Hitt, Jacob Hawkins and Butch McGill rounded out the top five.

Kyle Thomas has also been a roll lately as the Pennsboro driver had one win, two seconds, a third and a fourth place finish at Elkins. He also added three wins at Tyler County. Friday night the W G Motorsports / Paint by Grover #32 started on the pole and never looked back as Thomas lead wire to wire to notch his second checkerboard. Robert Cossell IV chased Thomas the entire distance but had to settle for second. Derek Rogers, Chad Green and Shawn Jett completed the top five in the Budweiser crate Late Models.

In what was easily the most dramatic finish of the night, fans were on their feet for the Miller’s Used Cars Modifieds. Mike Murphy jumped to the point at the outset with Phil Jeffries, Brent Trimble, Michael Cromer and Bill Vandevender in tow. The race was slowed by only one caution as it was displayed on lap three. Murphy continued to show the way, as Trimble pressured Jeffries. At the half way mark, Trimble had secured the spot from Jeffries but the laps were running out. The front duo darted around the back markers as the laps wound down. With the white flag waving the leaders drove into turn one, they approached the lapped car and Trimble maneuvered his way under the car and trapped Murphy behind it. Trimble drove on for his fourth win. Trimble driving the H & R Block / David Stanley Consultants #1B, dedicated the win to his Grandmother Thelma who had suffered a stroke earlier in the week. Murphy finished second. Phil Jeffries, Michael Cromer, and Bill Vandevender were third through fifth.

Randy Bohan grabbed the front spot at the drop of the green in the Valley supply Street Stock finale and stayed there. It was the self sponsored driver’s second win of the year. Bohan held off a late charge from Ronnie Tincher and Brian Mitchell as the trio zipped through the backmarkers. Ricky Vest crossed in fourth and James Nelson was fifth.

Logan Hitt and Trey Watson had an all out war for the lead in the Mini Wedges with Paige Bragg and Kaitlyn Frazier right on their tails. The young drivers thrilled the crowd as they would cross the line in that order. Elliot Newlon would complete the top five. It was Hitt’s fourth checkerboard.
